SUNYAC Play to begin

The Fort Myers trip did not go entirely as we wished! We only won four of 10 games. I think we found out a lot about our team, especially at the end of the trip.

We had a lot of support down in Florida from our parents, fans and our alumni. Matt Burns, Andrew Gooch, Rich Gardinier and Mike Perry were in attendance for at least one game. And, Dr. John Ettling, the President of the College, attended our doubleheader sweep of Millikin.

We were supposed to start SUNYAC play last weekend, but the weather in New Paltz did not cooperate. We are going to face New Paltz tomorrow at The Rock Sports Complex in Chester, NY. And, for the first time in Plattsburgh State baseball history we are going to play a triple-header! That's right - three games.

The SUNYAC moved to three-game sets this year and of course the season starts with a weather issue. No conference games were played last weekend. So, our compact schedule gets even more compact.

Fort Myers, Florida!!!

We endured the 27 hour bus trip and arrived at the Best Western in Fort Myers, Florida around 3:30 this afternoon!

Our players are excited because it is 83 degrees and supposed to remain between 80 and 85 degrees the entire trip!

We are going to have our first outdoor practice on a baseball diamond at 7 p.m. I know the coaches are excited about that!

We also will practice at 9 a.m. We play our first game tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. against Dubuque (IA).

I am confident that we are ready to play!

I heard that a few former players should be around this week: Matt Burns, Rich Gardinier and Andy Gooch.

Things to Work On!

We didn't do as well as we would have hoped on the opening weekend trip to Long Island.

We lost opening day to Old Westbury, 4-0. Tyler Greene was excellent in relief of starter Dan Tracy. Tracy suffered the first loss of his career. We made a couple of base running mistakes that cost us opportunities to score.

Paul Handy made a debut to remember in the win over Southern Maine. Paul hurled a complete-game, scattering seven hits over nine innings and striking out five to record the win.

We did not have our finest pitching against Ithaca. Brian Burns pitched well throwing 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. We had a 3-1 lead in the top of the third but the roof caved in after that. We had 11 hits but no clutch hits.

Our pitchers need to be more confident in their abilities. Our batters need to be more confident in their abilities.

Right now we need to play another game!

Florida is only a few days away.

Opening Weekend!

We made our first bus trip of the year last night down to Long Island. We open our season today when we play Old Westbury at Baseball Heaven. It is going to be chilly - high of 35 degrees. But at least we will be playing a game.

We played Old Westbury last year and we won two close games.

Our season preview ran in the Press-Republican today, with another preview in the Cardinal Points.
