Brighton signs with NECBL Vermont Mountaineers

Casey Brighton of the Plattsburgh State men’s baseball team has signed to play with the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) next summer.

The Mountaineers have been a member of the NECBL since 2003, winning back-to-back NECBL championships in 2006 and 2007. They play a 21-game season at Montpelier Recreation Field, in Montpelier, Vt.

Brighton, a junior infielder from Hyde Park, Vt., appeared in 25 games for Plattsburgh State during the 2011 season. He posted a .211 batting average with 11 runs batted in. In the field, Brighton committed two errors, finishing the season with a .986 fielding percentage.

This past summer, Brighton played 39 games with the West Virginia Wild of Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League. He drove home 24 runs in 132 plate appearances and held a .277 batting average, a .361 slugging percentage and .311 on-base percentage.

In 2010, Brighton played 29 games with the Fish Flies of the River Valley League in Dubuque, Iowa.
